E.C. Hallbeck Memorial Scholarship Program
At the time of the merger in July 1971, APWU decided to continue the academic scholarship created under the United Federation of Postal Clerks (UFPC) in January 1969. The scholarship was a tribute to E.C. "Roy" Hallbeck, UFPC President. It is a self-perpetuating financial base for significant educational assistance to children of APWU Union Members. The program awards $1,000.00 scholarships for four consecutive years to a minimum of at least one recipient from each of the five postal areas.

Vocational Scholarship Program
APWU established the Vocational Scholarship to help students interested in programs of study leading to definite trade, technical, industrial or vocational occupations. [Examples: Culinary, Medical or Dental Assistant, Electrician, Real Estate, Auto Mechanics, Certified I/T- Computer Education, Cosmetology or Massage Therapy] The program awards $1,000.00 scholarships annually, up to three (3) years, to a minimum of at least one recipient from each of the five postal areas. [The length of the program should be from nine (9) months to (3) years].

Applicants must be the son, daughter, stepchild, or legally adopted child of an active or deceased member of the MAINE STATE APWU through Local affiliation or as a Member-At-Large, (MAL).

Auxiliary to the APWU Scholarship

The Nilan Scholarship is funded through the National Auxiliary "Book of Memories" established as a living memorial to deceased Auxiliary family Members. Donations from State and Local Auxiliaries as well as other private donations also support it. With the continuing help the National Auxiliary intends to continue Auxiliary Scholarships as long as they are needed.
